Tip 1: APD Screen for RoadRunner CE

Remember that when you switch to RoadRunner CE terminals you will need to change the APD screen for the User, as the old DOS APD is larger and will produce a scroll bar if it is loaded on to a RoadRunner CE. If both DOS and CE RoadRunners are in use it is a good idea to create a different user ID (see next tip) , with a CE APD, for using the CE RoadRunner – adding CE to the original DOS User ID is a popular choice.

Tip 2: Making changes to the APD screen for all types

This tip only applies to those Customers who have a mix of DOS and CE RoadRunners and do not use the "RouteStar PC Operator "Class. If you have a mix of DOS and CE RoadRunners then making a global change to the screen is troublesome (using the "Apply to all users in this class" function) as this will change all the APD's to the same type (CE or DOS) and undo all the good work done in setting up the users correctly. The way to circumvent this is to set all the CE RoadRunner User ID's to be User Class "RouteStar PC Operator" when they are created. Once this has been completed , for one of the User IDs, select the Rights Tab and , for each in turn (Main Process, Meter Edit and Roadrunner), select Clear All then OK. Now select Main Process again and click the Login box and then OK. This will now have set the rights of this user to match those of User Class "Reader". Remember to open a DOS meter reader User Id and check the Rights Tab, RoadRunner, and match those settings on the "RouteStarPC Operator" User ID as this may vary according to your own procedures. Finally, open the newly amended user and select the "Apply to all users in this class" and the rights will be distributed to all the User ID's in the "RouteSTAR PC Operator" class.

Tip 3: MS Access© restrictions

If you are finding that your RouteStar MVP MS Access© database is reaching it's capacity and performance is poor, why not switch to Oracle© or MS SQL Server©. Whilst both of these products are designed for network usage, it is possible to utilise the single PC option of MSDE SQL Server© or Oracle Express©. The relevant scripts for database creation are supplied with the latest MVP Software Release 3.9. Speak to your IT Department and MTS can supply all the information needed and on-site assistance when required.

Tip 4: User Defined Fields

Remember that the more User Defined fields that are sent to the RoadRunner, the more memory on the RoadRunner will be used, thus reducing the number of meters that can be loaded. This will not affect 5320B RoadRunner CE users but most PC9800 DOS RoadRunners are limited to 2 MB. If you need to use multiple User Defined fields then an upgrade to the 5320B Windows CE RoadRunner is a must!
